elcome to GALoopers.com, your one stop resource center for
Looper genealogy and family history research in the state of Georgia.  The first Loopers migrated from the Old Pendleton District of South Carolina into North Georgia while it was still Cherokee Indian territory and before the great Georgia gold rush, the first major discovery of gold in America.

Available research, at this time, indicates that the Looper family in America probably immigrated from the Netherlands to New Amsterdam (New York) in the 1600s.  Before then, they may have been French Hugenots who fled France to avoid religious persecution and settled in the Netherlands for awhile before coming to the colonies.  Although we hope to eventually find all the pieces to this puzzle the intent of the Georgia Loopers website is to document all the Loopers who settled in the state of Georgia and to provide a convenient place for Georgia Looper researchers to meet and exchange information.

The earliest documented Looper in Georgia was Joseph Washington Looper (1806-1898) and a large part of this website is dedicated to his descendants and ancestors.  There are at least two other Looper lines in Georgia that we will also address.

The Looper family has provided the state of Georgia with gold miners, soldiers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, mayors, judges and inventors among others.  Join us as we attempt to chronicle the lives and times of our Looper ancestors and cousins in Georgia.
